After the young bird season i am ripping down my lofts and starting again can anyone tell me if i was to use concrete blocks for the back of the lofts and timber for the rest (sides roof front etc) would this create damp within the loft.

any advice on loft designs would be great i have a few months to start planning and drawing up some ideas. I am wanting an L shaped loft with at least 5 sections possibly 6.

thanks in advance

there is no problem using a block construction but as with most lofts its all about having adequat ventilation.

hi phil if i used air bricks as well as blocks would that be ok for the  ventilation at the back of the loft

you have to be careful that mice don't get through the air bricks.

Best way would be to put airbricks in low down, below a false grille floor so that droppings etc fall through the grilles and the air rises from below the floor and escapes at roof height.

a guy down the road had to build his loft into a steep bank so he dug the ground out built the base and then put his loft ontop. Under the floor he had a door which he could walk through and clean out the underfloor are which was 6' high giving a realy good flow of air.
