thunderboult Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 i've never payed any attention to it,although i have heared it mentioned before. but i know when the sun and the moon are in line it create's more magnet pull on the earth,if you believe that magnatism is the main source of direction finding i can see why they would dislike it. it could be coincidental and hawk had a go at the birds or they got caught up in other birds . i would have thought the birds would know what it is because it happens quite often.
andy Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 I have heard it said by experienced fanciers that you should avoid this if possible. Only really one way to prove or disprove the theory Hi Novice, Its just another excuse if someone or organisation has a bad race. Old wives tale I think. I've had some great races with this condition and lesser, some not so good, but these are few and far between, so theres maybe some other reason for this.
Guest IB Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Surely sun & moon are always there in the sky together, its just that moon is usually obscured to us from ground level by either cloud cover or sun's light. I'm sure birds will see both more often than we do. So I don't think it makes any difference.
