micko and jack Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 about time someone spoke out publicly for pigeon fanciers just a pity it didn't come from one of the pigeon associations hopefully now others like the associations will sit up and take notice http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/opinion/columnists/eamon-mccann/falcons-are-ruthless-killers-of-pigeons-so-why-protect-them-14161314.html
grizzal Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 Good piece, totally agree with your comments Micko
van Roberts Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 yes that what the general public think them letters at the end are quite worrying is it really time instead of giving all are money raised from shows etc to charitys to be given to someone who can give us all a better image if we ever could? i dont think so?
bird man of meath Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 just read it very true what he said but u will still have the do gooders saying different
Guest strapper Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 i think the post by kate ...her single mindedness shows through, shows how uneducated people can be. i bet that she is a lifetime cat lover who is an anti this and anti that campaigner. her rant on how she believes pigeons are is hysterical. what needs to happen is more good publicity to schools and local fetes and carnivals side shows.
white logan Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 what you must realise here gentlemen is , the RSPB has made millions of pounds out of the peregrine appeal fund and nothing out of flying rats (pigeons) DEFRA is infiltrated to the very core by the RSPB , barroness Barbra Young who heads DEFRA her former post was with the RSPB , wake up please , there will never be a cull on peregrine falcons .
gangster Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 nice article but the comments by kate the dumbass *expletive removed* show nothings going 2 change.................

I agree but maybe that's also a failing on pigeon fanciers/clubs/unions and associations not one comment supports mc canns article so maybe we could ALL keep an eye in the local press for this kind of article supporting pigeon fanciers post a thread and then WE mount a letter campaign in support of the sport just a thought for what its worth
The Navigator Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 Good read! like you say why are the unions not doing anything about this apart from lying down and getting walked over.
Guest Owen Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 As long as the falcons have a ready stocked larder of street pigeons we have no chance of highlighting what those butchering falcons are doing. We should get rid of the streeters as a matter of urgency. It is the only way that we can bring matters to a head quickly. Falcons have taken up residence in the towns a cities mainly because they have ready meals at there door. A pair lives on the church opposite the Winter Gardens, Blackpool. You can see them with the remains of their kills from the main entrance. If we did this, followed by keeping our birds in during the off season, the falcons would have to feed on the wild birds which would not be so easy for them. The falcon lovers would then have plenty of questions to answer and the falcons would be forced to move away for the winter to the coast etc. Can you imagine the effect of falcons attacking migratory birds? I doubt that the Public would put up with it for long.
