Hi all

Long time no speak I know.  I've had a really busy time of it recently and then I went and topped it off by getting involved in a really bad car accident so I've been off work and on crutches for a while.  Off them now, just gotta sort out my shoulder which still hurts quite a bit.  THe one good thing to come out of it is that I have got to spend alot more time with the pigeons.  The new shed is up now and we are just in the process of making the traps/boxes ( never know the right terminology lol!!)  One thing I've noticed is that Drop Wing only seems to want to eat when I'm actually here.  I never really noticed before as I was always rushing from my grandads to either my house or work.  Does anybody else have this problem?  I dont know if he is intimidated by the damn cats all around here.  I have tried lion pellets but that didn't really do much and I have the biggest water pistol in the world whihc I squirt em with but Drop Wing definitely only seems to eat when I'm out with him.  Blackie seems to be a bit better.  Am hoping now we have the new shed up we can get all 4 birds back together.  Only time will tell.... Have a great weekend everyone xx :P  Oh yeah will post piccies of lovely Chicken Legs and One Eye next time xx

Hi there, thanks for your reply.  Grandad had them tame before he got ill but for the last couple of years he was too ill to walk down to the shed very often.  Me and my mum used to go daily and feed them and clean them out but obviously time was always off the essence cos i wanted to spend as much time as possible with my grandad so the pigeons were a bit wary of me.  Its much better now I'm around a bit more but the pigeons still wont let me stroke them.  Well One Eye does but thats only cos she's too old to get away lol! Blackie will let me go right up to him but I dont wanna scare them too much.  They've been through alot of change already.  I spend as much time with them as I possibly can but it so difficult when I am between my grandads house and mine and also work away for half of the time.  Drop Wing does not appear to be losing weight but definitely eats alot less than Blackie and only seem to eat when I'm around.

Hi there, no the shed is up but I'm in the process of getting the boxes done.  I'm relying on my stepdad to do it & the poor fella is ALWAYS in demand from one member of my family or another so I dont want to push the point too much.  It should definitely be in the next couple of weeks.  We have decided that Blackie, Drop Wing and Chicken Legs will go in together and Old One Eye will stay at my mums.  I dont think she could survive another move.  The poor old girl (well I think shes a girl - she always seems very girly lol!!!) can hardly stand any more.  She can fly from her perch to the box where her food is but that really is about it.  She's still very happy though and not in any pain just her poor little body aint quite what it used to be.

I wanted to ask, sometimes when I change their food I notice that there is this clear stuff over it that kind of sticks the food together. Is this anything I have to worry about or is it normal. I've only noticed it recently.

Bugger, as I'm writing this that little white cat has snuck up onto the roof, I'm off to get my water pistol!!!!

Many thanks guys

Going to take stab in dark on the 'clear stuff!' been slug activity.  Now this is not good for birds as can pass on worms to them, that if i'm correct!!(doesn't happen often ;D)  Gravel around lofts/shed will stop slugs as don't like passing over this.

Another suggestion is remove corn over night as this is when most active.

Cheers

Sorry to hear of your accident which is much more important than either cats or pigeons. Hope you are much improved now.

Clear stuff on feed when changed is a strange one to me but Wayne could be right.

Bleugh!! i hope not - thanks for your thoughts i'll try taking their feed out at night cos it is in the morning when I feed them that i notice it xx  I'm doing fine after my accident.  My shoulder is a bit stiff still having physio but am back flying now which is good as I was getting bored and skint lol xx 8)

Hi Wayne

Looks like you were right.  When I went to feed my birdies yesterday there were 4 slugs in Drop Wings food.  Not nice.  Its a bit difficult as when I'm not flying I can take thier food out over night but obviously when I'm away and my mum comes over to do their food and water I cant really expect her to come back at night to take the food out.  As a precaution I think I'd better de worm them.  Any suggestions on what to use?

The good news is that the new shed is nearly done.  The boxes are done now but I'm having partitions put in incase they start fighting when they are all put back in together so there is just a bit left to do.

The new shed at my mums with Chicken Legs and One Eye does not seem to have a slug problem as I dont think the slugs can get in there.

Once again thanks for all your advice

Nikki xx :K)

Nikki only suggestion till new shed sorted is look for the obvious trails left by the slugs and put line of household salt across them, this will stop them :) also maybe a line across the door.  A cheap solution, and worth a try.  You can treat worms by tablets or water treatment, if prefer not use tablets then suggest harka-verm which place in water.  Getting tablet into throat can be hard at times so best in water, pm if struggle to get some harka verm.

Have you any photos of new shed?

Hope recovering from accident.

Forgot to say! make sure line of salt is on outside of loft.  The birds will go wild over it if inside but not sure will be too much good to them.
