there are a lot of people out there who may think that we are novices but this is not the case. in november of last year i lost my dad to cancer with whom i had a partnership of over 15 years. my dad didn't take it too seriously and never got the best from the birds. this resulted in me taking over the pigeons with my two sons who are novices shortly after he died.  i took over everything we had including stock birds which may i add have very good pedigrees and we paid a lot of money for. we had to move the loft which i guess didn't help with the old birds but i was hoping for better results with the young birds. the problem is that i can't seem to get the best from my birds no matter what i try. over the years i have tried many different things but most have had little effect to my birds results. i know it cant be the birds that are at fault but i can't understand where i am going wrong. my birds are out everyday twice wheather permitted and trained to around 25 miles to which i keep them around 2 to 3 times a week.the birds are also on the best corn and i use tonic and vitimans in the water also i use orego stim twice a week as well as giving them matrix. i have stuck it out for too long realy just being behind and i want to change this because im worried that my kids might start to lose interest. they are only 8 and 9 and i consider kids of this age the future of the sport. so if anyone out there can help us in any way we would be very greatful.

I always try and note down when my birds best performances were and what management system I was using at that time as it obviously worked,so when were your succeses and what have you done differently since?,think hard, sometimes it can be something that seems very minor to you but is a big deal to the birds.

Are they totally healthy, alot of things can go unditected as they display very little systems like minor fungal yeast infections for example, maybe a droppings test to rule health issues out?

How long is it since you introduced any new blood?,sometimes strains become tired and it is necesary to bring in something new

Just my own thoughts, hope they help, main thing is don't give up,think we all go through phases where we are disappointed by our own performances.

i dont think this is something you can sort by pms etc no disrespect to those who are trying to help is there no one in your area that is racing well that you can ask for help it might surprise you most are very willing to help its much easier when you can see 1st hand the whole situation us pigeon people tend to be tunnel visioned at times because the truth sometimes hurts not saying this is the case here but an overall view of the whole situation is needed lofts/ventilation birds etc  you might not want to here that because of your dads connection but iam sure he would want the best for yous all and he might even have a wee smile on his face when yous start to win more than he did hope you find the ans. you need you have made the first step in asking for help and this is the best place to do that i wish you all the best iam not going to offer you birds i think you need to get to the bottom of the prob first but if i can help you any further just ask iam in scotland dont know where you are that might help to know

a friend of mine , and might i add one of the fanciers in the country won more nationals than anybody , started off the season picking minor prizes in his local club, then it all went pearshaped , he did all the normal treatments , still nothing birds looked well , counld not put his finger on what was wrong , so took some birds and droppings to have them tested yo and behold they had bacteria in the crop, sorted it out went back to normal , in fact he topped fed out of saintes with a yearling soon after    so you see underlying problems do exist

First things first you are racing youngbirds are you on the darkness system? If not then its going to be hard to get a score. Also the two best things i learnt was not to much corn one and a half once's max per bird(for now you will learn what bird needs what as you go) second is get a system and stick with it if you chop and change you will get no where the birds need a set routine .This is just what i have found and i have raced a pretty good young bird this year also keep the feed light mine have half barley half race mix everyday except thursday when they get all they can eat of race mix and friday i feed all they can eat from 9am till 10am.I know alot of people will disagree with me but the real problem is finding what works for your birds.
