I went into the stock loft today to ring some young birds having checked on a pair of Hartogs whose young birds are around 5 days old the hen had laid again ive had them lay around 10 days but never before ive got the rings on them anyone else had this ?

it will be from another hen m8....most probly got scared of her nest in the night and went in the wrong box and laid....????????? ::) ::)

I would have said the same Mark but all the young birds in the compartment are the same ages just checked vent its off the hen.

and how wid she lay 2 surly didni get a fright again in time to lay second

also yb at that age would be coverd  and a dont think she wid lift to let sombody else in ti lay

We have had things like that before,usually in racing season,at those times i think if it isn`t 1 of your other hens,probably a racing hen sent  point of lay,comes in lays,and off minutes later before you notice her. ;)

Some strange thing going on in my stockloft aswell, i have the second round youngsters just born, in one nest they were about 3 days when an egg was laid in that same nest, now a few days later i checked the egg and there was nothing in it, i´ve never had something like this happen before.

If you want the eggs I would move them under feeders and let her lay again. As the youngsters get bigger they may not be weaned before the other eggs hatch and cause problems.

trigger as your name sugests put the gun to your head and pull the trigger most  likly another hen layed in wrong nest a cuckoo deary dear what ever you are on would you please send me some
