Guest chrisss Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 yea you may be right there terry but like i said im not a racer man, so i dont know whats best to do with a stray racer. for all i know the bird could have been worth hundreds of pounds, so do i just kick the bird out to get lost somewhere else, or to go into someone elses loft who might keep it for themselves or bin it...................the next racer that enters my loft wont be fed ,watered, or reported...........less hassle for me..................you racer men only have youselves to blame for lost birds not being reported and the sad thing is who can blame you for that? :o :o :o
ribble Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Hello Mikkey, Surely the best thing to have done was feed, water & liberate the bird away from your own BEFORE trying to find the owner !. If it didnt clear then try & find the owner. Just my thoughts of course. That is the exact way it should be done, in my opinion.

Easier to feed and water and take it to work with you and liberate. Why would you take the hump if you were trying to help
Guest mikkey Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 and i thought i was doing somebody a favour lol ;D.....silly old me......thanks for letting me know the best way to go about dealing with stray racers...................your sincerely .......................................................mikkey
tippler Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 no wing stamp no address ring, the pigeon wasnt wanted anyway.
jimmy white Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 yesterday morning i got a stray racer in with my rollers. it wasnt stamped so i took the ring number and looked it up on the rpra ring list, the list said contact rpra, so i sent them an email with the birds details, they emailed me back with the owners phone number to ring but the line was dead, so after more emails they gave me the owners club sec number, i couldnt get through to this either. then it dawned on me why was i doing all the ringing around, i had gone out of my way to get this bird back to its owner but the rpra kept passing it back to me. surely they should have sorted the bird out not me and people wonder why they dont get their birds reported............anyway i fed and watered the bird and let it out this morning, hopefully it will make its way back home..........................cheers RPRA............ sorry you seem to have had bother in reporting this stray, i would say this was a one off thing that has happened , so i wouldnt be dismayed,, i dont think its fair to say the owner wouldnt want it back, as it was not wing stamped, there could be a few reasons for that,,,among some reasons, the bird could well have been missing for some time and possibly moulted the stamped flight,,, it may have just been better/quicker ,,, putting the ring number on this forum,,,,on the" lost" column,,,

Guest mikkey Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 which comment do you find disgusting old yellow ???......the one saying i wont feed and water a stray maybe ??.............................i'll probably carry on reporting strays and feeding and watering em because like you said im a pigeon fancier myself. my original post on this matter was i feel the rpra didnt do enough to help the bird and left it to myself to deal with, maybe thats the way its done....i reported the bird on 2 different pigeon sites, i looked its number up on the ring list, i reported the bird to the rpra, i tried ringing 2 different numbers to contact the owner several times.....................i fed and watered the bird then let it out the next day......................im disgusted with myself, how can i call myself a pigeon fancier after i have treated a pigeon so badly ;)..............one thing im guilty of is spouting off about things that im not sure of :-/

Guest Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 as a pigeon fancier yourself i find this comment disgusting , any bird other than your own is someones property it may have made a mistake but not very gentlemanly to treat all birds like this that enter your loft , just because you had problems with one bird been reported your willing to decree every stray bird that enters your loft , some fanciers actualy want there birds back , i find your comments distastefull , i take stray birds from my area back north to liberate near there home i sometimes go collect strays from non fanciers and keep them till better i call this sportmans ship look how many fancy birds also get reported on here by racing fanciers , we do this as we know most people worth there salt would do this , as its hard enough with having B.O.P and wires to contend with as well as the likes that destroy because they entered there lofts , heres an idea we all can do keep a smallish rabbit hut for stays feed water take away from loft release if comes back then report it THERE IS TO MUCH OF THIS THAT GOES ON,I EVEN NOW FANCIERS THAT KILL BIRDS AS SOON AS THEY COME IN THERE LOFT WITH OUT GIVEING THEM A CHANCE
OLDYELLOW Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 i know it happens which is sad no wonder many get disalutioned and leave the sport , thats one of the reasons i take birds from others to repatriate nearer to home
pjc Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 there are far to many who don't want them back with every excuse under the sun why they can't collect them! Is it not an RPRA rule that birds should be stamped/carry address rings when training or racing? How many bother to stamp there birds before they start training? How many strays have you reported to be told "would you like it it bred off my best birds"? No wonder we have a problem!

I think what your saying phil , is its some fanciers attitudes and lazyness to send or collect for birds, i totally agree , but nothingwill change will it ? :-/
pjc Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 unfortunatly nothing will change but as the heading to this thread the RPRA pass the buck and don't deal with the culprits if reported to them!
OLDYELLOW Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 i think they should give yearly bans to people that dont colect there strays , they'd soon collect but you cant blame R.P.R.A for phone number no longer been in use

Guest mikkey Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 anyway old yellow lets put this one to bed now, ive learned a valuable lesson and ive also taken onboard my mistake and it wont happen again. im actually looking forward to getting in my next stray racer, just to see how it all goes and i love to help out the racer men from time to time, because its a great way to make new friends and be popular................good luck with your racing for the coming season old mate... ...dont lose too many
