globalgirl Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Hello guys, I now know why Blackie was so subjuded. He seems to have injured his right leg. He has a very prminient limp, the feathers around his leg are all ruffled and is not eating. Any ideas as to what I should do. I'm so worried about him. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys xxx :'(
OLDYELLOW Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 he may of hit something flying about , he may of knocked his leg , very hard to see via your photograph
globalgirl Posted November 4, 2008 Author Report Posted November 4, 2008 Will it heal or do I need to be worried? He's off his food too xx
wilkins Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 it might be shock thats put him off his food , he should be ok with just a injured leg
pjc Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 most likely has bruised it clipping some wires etc but as he is standing on it its not broken. Let him rest it for a couple of days and he'll be fine. Is there any sign of blood around the area incase he has impalled himself on an aerial? Phil
PIGEONJIMI Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 I agree with pjc, just keep a close eye on Blackie over the next few days,In your condition you dont need any unwelcome stress..so chill

Guest IB Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Sorry, an oversight on our part perhaps; whenever a bird has been out for a few days, always check it for injuries. Lift each wing, make sure there's no wounds or cuts either under the wing or on the side of the body that's hidden under them; check each side of the keel for cuts and grazes etc. If you do come across anything, simply dip the bird in warm soapy water (washing up liquid) tease the feathers to one side and have a good gander at it; if its a graze usually a few dabs with soapy water is enough, but if it looks like the skin is broken, then douse wound liberally with neat antiseptic too, or seal it with antiseptic cream. That cat may have clipped him - cats claws are notorious for harbouring dangerous bacteria. A crushed garlic clove wouldn't go amiss in his drinking water.

Excellent advice as I think she is a novice. Check all of the bird as he may have more than just a bruised leg but hopefully not.
mark croker Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 dont worry, i had a bird break both legs on an arial, even with that he was back to normal in under 6 weeks, he will soon eat when hes over the shock
globalgirl Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 Thanks guys a very nice man called Bob is coming to look at him for me today. He is only in Sutton so thats very handy. Its hard cos I've never really handled Blackie as he normally wont let me get anywhere near him. He gets in such a state when I try I think I might give him a heart attack with the shock. Hoping Bob can give me a few pointers. Thanks for the garlic advice I will go and buy some today xx
