Hi guys, Lee here, Ive been on here a while, having kept white racers for 12 months or so. reading another post I would like to put my whites to the test but dont have too much time available at the moment.

Is it possible for a novice to enter young birds in the one loft race to see if they are any good??? Would I have to be a member of a club or is it OK just to have my own rings on the birds from the RPRA? Would I need to vaccinate or is that done at the one loft?

Any advice would be greatfully received - sorry if these are stupid questions!!!

one loft races are open to all , as long as your birds are registered to a racing union thats fine so no need to be in a club , most one loft races have a clear set of rules so you would have to read them , you would get a better test of your birds by flying them yourself or offering them to people that wish to race them for you :)

would I be right in thinking if you put your birds in the one loft, you dont get them back?

Is it common for other flyers to train and fly other people's birds?

once entered the birds become the one lofts owners birds and are usualy sold to cover costs , but these things are covered in the one loft rules  :) people swap birds all the time and if they wanted a few whites then why not ? :)

Leroy, why don't you offer some youngbirds to other members in the spring to race for you with theres and see how they do?

You can put your rings on and transfer them to whoever races them and i'm sure you could make an arrangement to have any back if you so wished although it might be better to see if you can find somebody local to you to try them so that you could go and see them home yourself.

another idea is enter them into breeder buyer races  in your local area then if they win you get half of the money ;)

I agree - entering a one loft race could be an expensive exercise if you're birds are not yet tested. All your local clubs will more than likely be running breeder buyer competitions. The youngsters than being raced either all season or 1 specific race that will decide the winner. 50% of the winnings going to the breeder / 50% going to the buyer. Finding someone to race a team of your birds may not be easy unless there are other novices in the area or you have some good contacts.
