van Roberts Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 all these fanciers breeding early do you start to train your young birds at ten weeks old or do you wait untill they are 7 months old which i think is far to late and could be one of the answers to young bird losses bred early once before lost all early young trained at 7 months old got late birds may born never lost one of these
gooner Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 when i started up again a few years back i paired up boxing day and i started training the young birds around the middle to end of april, i took the training slow just twice a weekstarted at 5 miles and stepped up 5 miles at a time and had a great young bird season, i will be doing the same this year as ive just moved again
van Roberts Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 did you lose many if not this is what im saying
gooner Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 that year i rung 60 young and strted racing with 55 i had 35 cocks and 20 hens, i did how ever loose alot racing but i think that was down to me rushing them back when they went ill. the one good thing was that every pigeon that was left had one at least one prize card. I had 32 left at the end of young birds.
peterpau Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 Can't be doing with training youngsters that early. I breed late cos I too have lost all early bred and done well with May hatched youngsters, and latebreds.
van Roberts Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 good racing gooner food for thought dont you think peterpau
peterpau Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 If you only have babbies fine, new loft set up sounds dead on.
