taught this might be of interest what tricks do ppl play with there cocks to motivate them or do before that big race

try after showing hens ,  a 3 mile single up toss back to hens b4 basketing,,getting someone let each cock into their hen, then let them settle, then basket for race :)

i think you need a feww sections of cocks so you can motivate them seperatly to vary the motivation to prevent them becoming stale

would that be every week yu do that jimmy our just the odd time worth a try that especialy 4 the yearlings

i would think jimmy would agree if u keep playing the same tricks they get cute they are cute little beggars  for me personally i wouldn't play any tricks with yearlings till late in season and remember u need to get roughly 15 to 20 races out of them so keep the tricks till later in the year  ;)

well done to all for the input bet some novices will get something out of this

many years ago, i didnt use nest pans, just thick straw, when on w/hood everything was gutted out,, and the loft bare, b4 any impoerant race, the straw went in,, and did they remember it :),,, but one fancier watching me tried this [birds had never seen straw] put the fear of death into the birds, didnt trap on the sat,, so maybe a lesson here :)

try slipping a 2 ybs under a w/hood cock [an older one for a distance race] never having had eggs or seen his hen for 4 weeks,,the 6 year old cock,  took to these yb s like a duck taking to water , became a different pigeon, allmost overnight, ,,,15th rennes nat blue riband race :)

Nothing, I play no tricks, whether I'm missing a trick I don't know, but I did the same for my first race as I did for my last, last season, and I was happy with how the birds performed.

to be honest i dont play many tricks but when there is a older cock in the loft that after geting cute as i think they do at times i feel the odd time they need a little jig espacilly at sprint races

but in this sport in most cases there seems to be no right or wrong way  :-/
