Guest slugmonkey Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 I got one on a long pole I chase birds with
Guest bakes Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 heres a pic of my trap mate you can see how big the landing pad is as long as its big enough for a few birds to land on with out problems you will be ok
Guest stb Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 thats fine . birds will land on that no prob once they get used to trapping.
Guest Owen Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Sorry, I don't like it at all. It may be OK for pet birds but next to useless for racing pigeons. Ideally, you need a landing board big enough for them all to land. Your birds must be compeletely confident in landing as a group from training and racing. A lot of races are won and lost on the speed of the trap, so your birds do not have to hesitate. A small trap like that will cause them problems in landing and they will soon develop the habit of either landing somewhere else first or swinging around before they drop in. In any event they will not be able to win tight races for you. My remarks can sometimes be a criticism of sputnic traps when there are numbers of birds all trying to land at once.
pjc Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 my concern with that trap is the birds won't find it! if the trap is fitted to a small flight etc when the birds have been let out they will look to re entre the same place, it doesn't look like your birds will be even going out of the same side of the shed yet you expect them to find the way back in.
Guest bakes Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 the birds got realesed through the front door then i chuck food up onto the trap there been out 3 times today for around 3 hours and everytime they have come back threw the trap 6 out of 6 everytime
pjc Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 if they are using it then great, often they will just look to go back through the door.
Guest bakes Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 thats what i was worried about when i realesed the birds for the first time this morning there out again now just let them out as wont them to log in the area there all sitting on top of the loft as soon as i open the trap and say come on shake the tin they go into the loft by the trap was going to put the trap at the front of the loft but local fancier said try putting it at the side so i did and its working one of my birds went for about half hour and just came back didnt have to shake the tin or nothink landed on the trap and was straight back in the loft
