Double Feathers

I have a yb mealy and it has feathers growing on its feathers my dad also said that its growth had stunted so are they connected or not and what is this condition that makes the double feathers can someone say plz :-/ :-/

Hi Keiran,

 

As long as youve vaccinated against paramyxovirus, then we know that disease hasnt stunted the yb.

I would put money on it being a genetic feathering abnormality.

sounds like a fault called feather duster in cage birds unfortunatley it will be no good for racing or breeding :)

i would say it is an after effect from paramxyo virus  the feathers start to re grow after the virus has gone,  and they look like little dart feathers on the end of their feathers if you look in  the fit to win book  wim peters explains this in full. and it only happens after para,  pigeons do not  breed feather dusters

well we got them treated for it about a week ago so e must have just missed that one in breeding time but they are all fine

I think vaccination can sometimes effect the feather on the back of the neck if they are just beginning to grow when it is done.
