Guest Silverwings Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 our local college is currently preparing a proposed 5 to 10 week introductory course on pigeon racing ! and hope to encourage members of the public into the world of pigeon racing , our local club has provided the facility for the college to stage an open evening , local fanciers across the region are being asked to provide displays of birds ,clocks, baskets, feeds, and systems related to the sport also a speaker for the evening is needed (any suggestions would be welcome) this is an excelent offer from the college and a step in the right direction to give non fanciers an insight into the world of racing pigeons in the wake of its current decline !! the college feel that if the project is a success the venture could be taken up by other facilites across the uk ? any ideas or suggestions, support or help from the pigeonbasics to make this a success would be most wecome..........ray (west midlands)

fred x Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 Silverwings, The was a Great Documentary Vidio out some time age, About The History of the Sport, Breeding, Housing, Training & Racing Called "MARTHON in the SKY" Narrated by The Late Actor Michael Landon. Must be some one out there that still has one in their cupboard. (You can borrow)
Guest Owen Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 Silverwings I am very interested in what you've arranged. If it is possible, I would like to attend. The Club I am in has been asked to run "Events" for the Big Lottery. In addition to that, I have already run some general interest sessions for, mainly Women's Groups here, around Talywaun, which is near Pontypool, South Wales. I would very much like to run courses for those who may be interested in racing pigeons as a sport or hobby. The WEA in this area could be interested in sponsoring something like this.
Guest Silverwings Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 thanks for all the advice and help much appreciated !! as soon as i get confirmation; times ,dates ,venue etc will post them on here .........ray

pjc Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 there is a teacher in the area but he keeps fancy pigeons. I have a feeling he is retired, it could be an ideal candidate!
Guest Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Ray, congratulations tou you and your club race, the very beat of luck with this innovation, if it is successful it could be a great catalyst for the sport to move forward with such courses being organised throughout the country. I think you need a very special person to carry this forward and I hope you identify him/her. On a general point, I doubt it, but if there is anyway I can help let me know. Best wishes Alan
