i agree with the last sentence on j bamlings post,,,these are far better birds,

,but with due respect, i find that different fanciers have different managements, i think  the  management has to suit the birds and vica versa,

the old  adage :) , you can buy the birds but you cant buy the management ,,,

,but, as always with pigeons there are many roads to rome lol ,,,but good pigeons the mainstay :)

dont matter how many are sent...you still have to have a bird in front!!!..bigger birdage doesnt really mean more of a chance of winning...you could have one sending 100 unfit birds and someone sending 20 fit birds...chances are the fit birds will prevail.

well when i was in partnership with my mate we had a big team of 45 widowhood cocks and 45 widowhood hens to race . but we didnt send this many to try win races our sat was spent sitting in the garden watching the birds return from the first to the last . but i can count on one hand how many gd ones there where as the same pigeons where our winning pigeons and the others might have a win now and again . so we could of cut our team down to 12 lol but then our day would of been over very quickly . gooner will tell you i use to come down the club burnt after sitting in the sun all day if it was out lol . now i keep a small team as i havent got the time to look after loads but i miss my saturdays watching a big team come home

this in my eyes is a very big subject on pigeon racing i think ... what do you all think ...i think its a big massive advantage ... is it that people cant stand when one bird comes back and then they are waiting on the next one that if they have big tumbling team ..id say its a great buzz..i personally race a small team and i think it would be nicer to fly a few more..sent 25 saturday ...if there is a bad race you can bring replacements in if you have big team and plus you can bring in fresh birds aswell ... i seen big fliers race the open this week with 80 odd birds and they are late... i suppose its hard wor aswell but the more the better the chance espiecally for the big prize ...just a thought all .... mikey (dublin ireland ) what do you think ??????? id like to try more of a team against these people ...

In my eyes the mob flyer can have has many has he likes. It only takes one to beat them. I also do not rate mob flyers, It's quality not quantity where it matters. Take your photo. If you have twenty of these and they do the business why do you want 100 of them. I look at NFC, BBC results etc and sometimes it seems the mobbers have to send a wack to get in the thick of things. They win 1st open with a non pooler and luck was on their side. If they had sent 4 would they have won it, I doubt it very much.

Since 2007 i have bred a big team, probaly just shy of a 100 ybs a year. As i had new pigeons i thought that i would probaly have a high number of duffers, so by breeding a few extra hopefully i would find a few more.

To add i want to compete from Lessay 160 miles to Tarbes 600 miles so i need two types of pigeons and that had to be factored into the breeding. Now that i have more reliable pigeons and ive learnt what are the most realiable lines then hopefully in the futrue i can breed less but increase the quality.

Its now race 5 and in 2007 i had 55 left at this stage, last year it was 60 and this year i have 81 from the 100 so hopefully im moving in the right direction.  Hopefully next year i will have the confidence to limit my breeding to 70ybs.

I personally believe thats its healthy to breed a few extra ybs but keep no extra old ones just make the selection criteria a little harder, too many people stop ybs after 2/3 races just to fill nestboxes.

I will also add that i dont support old bird racing in my club but i always send my team of ybs so at the end of it all i have contrubuted as much as anyone else.

i take the point about fitness....but if you've 100 fit birds you'll most likely beat 20 fit ones....otherwise why do people have large teams...theres no point unless there is an advantage

Hi Spin after other races and channel races (yb) i lost more and i lost a few of my yearlings in 2008 (mainly the gaby lines), at present from the 100 ybs that have survived from 2008 and 2007 i have 32 S/M (including widowhood hens) and 24 distance birds so that make so that makes 56, hope that makes sense.

i see where you at swilcox ... id like to fly a bigger team and maybe ib the future i wil las it would be great buzz getting birds every few seconds .... it allows you to get a good team aswell of yearlings to start cleaning up with the old birds mate .... mikey ( dublin , ireland )

And believe me i would like a smaller team and hopefully with sound breeding and quality pigeons i can do that in the future!!!!

There is many ways to rome, i have chosen my path and others have chosen theres, the game is who gets there first.

well many fly the nationals some a few so big teams are needed.

in todays racing ,you only need one bad race and lose some and you could find yourself without a team of birds to compete....but then again why have 20 birds if only one can win the race?

catch 22 situation.
