jimmy white Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 :-/When on natural,,there usualy healthier,What bull as this is for novices,, maybe you could explain why this is "bull" natural pigeons go through less stress than un-natural ones,, stress can often lead to ailments
just ask me Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 i think jimmy is right here i think what i would say is the more experienced fancier would know better how to handle birds better on the darkness and even know how to act in the loft around them causing less stress at the end of the day we are puting birds though a process of moulting by closing up the loft locking out light and this also blocks out fresh air i don't think its the moulting process that the big problem i think its the lack of air in the lofts
rasbull Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 I bred my first round youngsters middle of march onwards. How long after they are born do they start the moult. How many weeks and how long does the moult take to complete?
jimmy white Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 i think jimmy is right here i think what i would say is the more experienced fancier would know better how to handle birds better on the darkness and even know how to act in the loft around them causing less stress at the end of the day we are puting birds though a process of moulting by closing up the loft locking out light and this also blocks out fresh air i don't think its the moulting process that the big problem i think its the lack of air in the lofts this i would agree with,,im certainly not against the darkenning system, but this has to be done correct,, many novices are just told "go on the darkness system ,,its great" without being told about any of the poss. pitfalls caused by this system,,,,, i have seen many novices , through know fault of their own,,,,being told, "just make the loft dark from then to then" and thats it,, many have too many pigeons per cubic sq per loft without proper ventilation, this in itself would cause much stress, and could lead to ailments, the ventilation is of paramount importance, in this ,or indeed any system, but moreso in this system, cleanliness is another of paramount importance, timing another, but as the first poster asks , and many have answered , a little experience with pigeons first, b4 trying this system is probably best
