Dodgy Trapper Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 First of all sorry to hear you fanciers up North had a bad Y/B Race.(i know the feeling). What i would like to know is what were the returns like for fanciers who sent from France, BICC Falaise + BBC Lamballe on Sat 22/08/09 I had 6 from 14 (gutted were well trained 40 miles 3 times a week for the last 6 weeks). My friend had 1 from 12. And also with SW winds nice sunny day, perfect weather can anyone suggest what may have happened?.
Guest mick bowler Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Happened years ago from Avranches, any that were reported were Belguim, Holland Germany and Luxembourg. They went up the coast on a strong south west wind, only a few groups broke off and went, it was like they were scared to go over the water for some reason.
pompeyw Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 sent to bbc had 2 out of 2 old hens and 1 out of 4 young but young cock didnt come till sunday was gutted, they were well schooled pigeons

Dodgy Trapper Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 Very Quiet on returns from these races? (good or bad). I think many may still be in Europe and have not crossed over the channel.
Pompey Mick Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 I only sent one and got him Saturday, a fellow Club member got 2/3 ,another had 2/6 and the most consistent BBC flyer in our Club got 6/10 on the Saturday. There was a lot of heavy cloud in NW France and the Channel that morning, whether any of it was rain bearing remains to be seen. The BICC delayed their Lib because of the cloud cover. Portsmouth had a beautiful sunny day but at New Milton up to Winchester there was torrential rain until 9.00am, this weather passed just North of Portsmouth and was thundery. Maybe the pigeons encountered similar heavy showers en route. None of this was forecast.
magpie Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 BBC Lamballe was a poor race in South Dorset where we are among the shortest fliers. Some good fanciers failed to time at all while I would estimate average returns for others were only around 25/30 per cent. Personally we had four from 16 on the day, two more Sunday morning and have seen nothing since. They were all well trained and had several races up to 80 miles. The weather here cleared up after a drizzly start on Saturday and with south in the wind we were expecting a much better race. A lot of birds were liberated at Portland, I believe the Midland National and Derby Fed, at about the time the early birds from Lamballe should have been hitting the coast and whether this had any bearing on our returns or not I don't know. It would be interesting to know how the Channel Island fanciers fared for returns - from the provisional times it looks as though they struggled as well and yet they must only fly about 70 miles.
magpie Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Forgot to add we sent six old hens to Lamballe, mainly yearlings which had been widowhood hens that hadn't flown out since April, not raced or trained until a month ago and we had five in reasonable time and the sixth early Sunday.
Guest kev d Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 driving home from our holiday on sat morn from penzance to somerset it was full cloud cover looking out to sea and stayed like that all the way home but vis was very good it would be intresting to know if any west country flyers did any good . cheers kev
magpie Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 One very good early bird in Axminster, another in Taunton and a couple in Crewkerne in the top 50 in the YBs. But did these come with the leaders in the old hens race which were all in Somerset ie Bristol, Weston-super-Mare and Crewkerne ?
Guest kev d Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 hi magpie, who,s the taunton flyer who did well . thanks kev
magpie Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 P and D Clarke of Taunton were 61st - a good bird considering most of those in front of it were well to the east.
pompeyw Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 had one reported tonight from the bbc race dead in southern ireland
