Jacobasmith Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 This may sound like a stupid question, but what are them things on the front of most lofts called. they are usually made of wire mesh, i think that they hinge open to let the birds out. is there a minimum size that they should be?
Guest Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 possibly a sputnik ,or trapping system . if you can refer to a post where youve seen one . can confirm then . all the best ,and theres no thing like a stupid question ,the only stupid question is the one that isnt asked . best of luck . andy.
Jacobasmith Posted June 25, 2009 Author Report Posted June 25, 2009 thanks for answering my question, i was reffering to the "thing" at the front of this loft http://www.redroselofts.com/starter_loft.htm i have seen them on many other lofts in the shape of boxes or triangular prisms.
Guest Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 have read your previuos posts , loft size (hutch style) main section 3ft square . when i started as a boy had a similar thing with a door large enough to reach in and clean .but the birds entered thru a fold down board with bob wires behind it.this allowed the birds to enter but not leave . it was about a foot square , make sure its secure so nothing else can enter . hope this helps Jacob . best of luck. andy.

Hogni Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. remember that.
Jacobasmith Posted June 25, 2009 Author Report Posted June 25, 2009 its definately not an avairy, its alot smaller. it is usually built onto the side of the loft, off the ground. i was also wondering if i was to add one to a loft i am building, should it have a wooden or a wire floor, as i am worrying about water settling on it.
Guest spin cycle Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Maybe visit a few other pigeon people look at their set-up--get sevaeal idea's- you will not find "TWO" build the same. AND remember no matter how hard you try to get it right the first time--you will change something at a later date. you are right there...in my case...well i've lost count (dizzy)...part of the fun though
