REDROCKET Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 a bit of a disapointing reply from someone whos supposed to be running the show ???????????
Guest IB Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 I've just viewed the clip tonight. Not happy with the studio intro calling the birds 'carrier pigeons' because the audience wouldn't connect that name with the modern day racing pigeon (and that's why I believe the RSPB use the same term when talking about peregrines being killed during the war to protect 'carrier pigeons'.) But the clip itself re-inforces the correct message and forges the link: during the war pigeon fanciers donated thousands of their racing pigeons to help the war effort And in doing so saved countless lives.
gorsy bank lofts Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 Why the RPRA don't approach the Royal British Legion, with a view to incorporating pigeons in some way into the poppy appeal. I know Remembrance Day is for those who lost their lives for the future of us all, but, were it not for those gallant pigeons many more brave soldiers would have perished. Needless to say many pigeons also perished in those wars trying to save lives, and so I feel they should also be recognised by incorporating a symbol, of some description, on the poppy. My suggestion being having the little black centre of the poppy in the shape of a flying pigeon. Just my thoughts went to national memorial arboritum(alrewas staffs) where monuments are displayed to mark all sorts of organisations war/and civil always packed with people i think we should lobby rpra to have our own erected with the service pigeons did in the war, we give enough money away to charities (not that they are not deserving) but we should publisise ur selves more, this would educate thousands of visitors every year. :-/

Guest Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 in this weeks B.H.W. David Bills mentions in his column they had only 24 hrs notice that this programme was going out ,and says he would have publicised it more . also its given a good airing by Colin Hill in "views from bletcley park" column,he mentions the presenter Ellie had interviewed 92 yr old Major Claude Hill (not related i think) former pigeon service chappy during the war . although nothing of it on the programme? andy.

If a good PR person/Co was employed by the RPRA things would have been different
Guest Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 If a good PR person/Co was employed by the RPRA things would have been different yes i agree Bob,some have posted although David Bills is not a pigeon man , he has the right tools to do the job well . if that were the case he would have had a statement made by now on the one show . and his article in B.H.W. could read a little better . andy.

Andy, if I read your post right, you seem to have missed the Claude Hill bit - Ellie did speak to him on the programme. Have another look at it on the web link.
