BLACK W F Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 great publicity for the pigeon fanciers thats what we need more shows like that
Guest Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 just cought the end bit :-/ great it was short and sweet ,not 100% accurate , but did raise awareness about the fact they saved lives as opposed to the flying rat image ,so overall a posotive thing . andy.
Guest Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 its a start we could build onit is great to see short ,informative films about the birds. i think if the R.P.R.A. had a promotions person ,they could contact the show ,point out the few discrepencies ,and show another short film ,add links to websites (like pigeonbasics) . andy.
Guest Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 Why the RPRA don't approach the Royal British Legion, with a view to incorporating pigeons in some way into the poppy appeal. I know Remembrance Day is for those who lost their lives for the future of us all, but, were it not for those gallant pigeons many more brave soldiers would have perished. Needless to say many pigeons also perished in those wars trying to save lives, and so I feel they should also be recognised by incorporating a symbol, of some description, on the poppy. My suggestion being having the little black centre of the poppy in the shape of a flying pigeon. Just my thoughts

Just my thoughtsthat would be a nice touch Bob . i asked (a few years back) for any posters or info to promote the sport to put in local shop or post office windows, mainly to increase membership of my last club ,through new members or folk that kept birds before and now in retirement may consider keeping them again ..... i am still waiting ? andy.

It would certainly bring to the public's attention those gallant pigeons that saved so many lives, especially on a televised service.
Guest IB Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 The best link, war and pigeons, would be support for, and a good entry in, the proposed British International Annual Race from Ypres, Belgium, site of worst slaughter of many nations' young people in WW1 battles of the Somme, and the International war graves cemetery. Maybe worth emailing Unions to make sure they intend to take part from 2010.

Guest Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 Email sent to Mr David Bills The response I received from Mr Bills this morning Dear Mr Nichols, Thank you for your suggestion. The BBC One Show featured pigeons in war last night. The programme explained the pigeon’s contribution to the war effort, the animals in war memorial and it included a clip from a camera carried by a pigeon and a message being carried. Regards David Bills General Manager
Guest Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 The response I received from Mr Bills this morning he is stating the obviuos there Bob ?? . hoped for something a little more in depth ? but thanks for taking the time and effort . andy.
Guest Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 he is stating the obviuos there Bob ?? . hoped for something a little more in depth ? but thanks for taking the time and effort . andy. Well to be honest I was expecting a little more myself ?? Nevertheless I will refrain from commenting further and leave it to others to make their own opinions on what the RPRA think of suggestions made by it's members. All I will say is I have the utmost respect for ALL those brave servicemen and women who fought in the many wars, in which so many lost their lives, so that we can have the freedom we enjoy today. The same respect goes to the animals and birds who had no choice, but to participate, and did so much to help save the lives of those brave service people.
