Guest Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 ok so u want to win but at what price? ive a £20 pound note here.......... are you going to tell me how?? might take a chance. andy.
paddymac Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 Price does not come into it. I enjoy racing my birds and if I manage to get on the result sheet its a bonus. Money is taking the good out of this great hobby. Believe me I have spent a small fortune on the birds I have and I have parted with them without any return to new starters no matter what they cost me. Hijacking the advert on the telly, Price of a new loft £250+, Price of a clock £250, price of a pigeon £40+, Price of baskets, training etc £150+. Watching a pigeon hitting the landing board after a race from any distance Priceless.
Guest IB Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 I didn't think lithgilad was talking about money when asking about 'win what price'. I thought it was another way of asking 'win at any cost'?
NW USA Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 What's your point? Are you asking people to tell you if they'd be willing to cheat for a win? Neglect family and work to win? I like racing, but not that much.
paddymac Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 Win at any cost obviously results in a monetary gain if your that desperate to take underhand measures. Returning back to my post, money is taking the good out this great sport.
Guest Owen Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 I am glad that it takes a lot more than money to win. It would be terrible if our sport became like football. The ones with the deepest pockets can dominate. OK it is an advantage if you can go to the best breeders and buy the best of birds but, as we all know, that little guy who has never spent a penny can often win. It is the same with the posh lofts, winners can come from lofts made from secondhand materials just as well as the best tailor made lofts costing thousands. If it were not for these things it would not be worth bothering. Would it?
paddymac Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 If you take any underhand measures to win any race the only person you are fooling is yourself and you shouldn't be in this sport/hobby.

Guest strapper Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 i would would spend thousands to win..............but im skint ..............so the mrs will have to win another arguement ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
tjloft Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 I believe that your ability to win is based upon the effort you are prepared to put in and not continually chopping between systems. Many times people pay a lot of money to purchase birds which have done well for someone who has fine tuned his racing methods and in reality could ring a feral youngster and get it to win. One mistake I believe is to go for numbers without having the space - some of the best lofts(with results) I have visited have few birds. A bit of ruthlessness does not go amiss - a mate of mine outed 20 pigeons this afternoon whilst vaccinating and two of them won feds as YB/yearlings but done nothing for the last two years.
tryer Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 cheaten is for looses who havent got the now how .

micko and jack Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 last Sunday I visited a loft the fancier has had many many winner and one of the things he said and it stuck with me we were talking about some fancier sending up to 100 birds to a race I thought it unfair but the fancier said it doesn't matter if a good bird is flying against 1 or 100,000 birds a good birds a good bird BUT a lot depends on GOOD LOFT MANAGEMENT AND TRAINING and i think paddymac's 100% right when big money gets involved its a bad thing all that said we keep fantails
weecunny Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 had birds for 30 years so its cost me a fortune ti win a race but and thats not buying some one elses sucsess.its been years of hard work and a few miles traning the birds if a didni have doos a wouldni need a car lol
Tony C Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 Its the challenge, winning becomes a by-product of being successful, a yardstick of how you yourself are doing. No challenge holds no interest to me. For me its not about trying to beat everyone else its about me trying to become a better fancier. The cost? many disappointments I guess.
Guest bakes Posted November 22, 2009 Report Posted November 22, 2009 i will enjoy oldbird,yb racing come 2010 every race my birds are racing in i will be going for the win or top 5 if i keep them there i be happy all the best k.baker

I would not say money is spoiling racing well not in my fed anyway as i held my own this year 1st year back after 3 year out. as for the post i have quoted this for me is spot on .sitting waiting in the garden for my 1st ob race this year with a mate jim bell when my CWF hen came screaming round the side of the house and trapped like a bullet . me still sitting their jim shouting get her clocked .i cant not sent transfer away yet. sent them in on the Monday.next again week same thing with a C PIE cock .jim said move clock him can,t transfer not cleared yet. cost me the old bird cup in my club i get the runner up cup but i am better for it.
