paullock Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Anyone on here like to give advise on how much training hens on eggs need for prep for over the channel, how much would tire them out? Paul.
Tony C Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 paullock, can you be a bit more specific as to what you have in mind.
Graham Kelly Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 I'm assuming that if they are being prepared for the channel that they are already trainned and fit with possibly 2/3 land races in their wings. I think its just a case of tuning them up again if they are on eggs just give them 3 or 4 short tosses back to them around 15 - 25 miles. Thats how I do it for channel racing from England to Ireland (150-250mls). Graham
paullock Posted November 24, 2009 Author Report Posted November 24, 2009 Thanks Im just trying to get a feel for the amount they really need to prepare them for there first race over the channel, like do they need to be out every day off the eggs for a wing stretcher or will tossing them from the basket be enough a couple of times a week prior to the first race? Paul.
Guest frank dooman Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 its not so much how many races as time on the wing i feel you can do ok with only 3 races as long as the last one gives the birds 7/8hrs on the wing, hens sitting can stay/come into condition very well but they need that boost of time on the wing so 3 races could go tp 5 depending on the winds on the day last year was murder for us in scotland leicester last year is normaly 7/8 hrs to me but with the south in the wind it was only 5 hrs thats a big prob
paullock Posted November 25, 2009 Author Report Posted November 25, 2009 Thank you frank this make sence to me Im really going to try these methods next season. Paul.
Guest frank dooman Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 hop skip and jump thats the best
