dwh Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 why limit people your just cutting your own prize money down and i much prefer it when some one send 40 plus to a race against my six and i win or take the first six its very satisfyin lol see what u mean r/r but if we send 10 instead of 20 we just pool the 10 upto ahigher pool not that we win a lot cos we don't we just think they in good nick and stand a good chance

Guest mick bowler Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 reading the birds for 2010 thread there is a big difference in the amount of birds fanciers keep i know everyone circumstances are different but what do u think this right amount of pigeons for a fancier to have to be able to the most out of his team if if there that special champion in the team to give the bird the attention he needs to perform to his best remember also we all have family's work etc please include stock birds in your estimate My only answer would be a fancier can keep the maximum number of birds where he is still in control of the birds (good routine) and the birds are in control of him. I know by experience that keeping too many can just be totally detrimental to everything, you, the birds, your family and doubt you ever win anything. I'd rather keep 5 pair that i can control than 50 pair i cannot!

Guest ROCKYandRAMBO Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 yep im with you on that one to hence why these big set ups have loft managers lol so theres more than one helping out then
retired Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Very good question My ideal numbers would be 12 Racing cocks 12 - Hens - Solely for the Old Hens National 30 Young birds 6 pairs of stock Im like most in that i know i have too many pigeons (more so in the stock loft than anywhere) The numbers i have listed are what i think i can manage with outside influences away from the birds. Thought about this year racing cocks, hen and obviously youngsters - to do this properly i think i need about 5 hours a day to get all the birds out - It simply isnt possible. Keep having it drummed into me that no back garden loft should really need more than 6 pairs of prisoners - starting to agree with it as how many of us keep stock birds and never test them properly.

GUILTY , have bought a few pairs in this year ,and will only raise a pair from each ,dont have the room or ,(against authority rules) to keep too many . andy.
mark croker Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 I dont keep stock and i dont intend too 16 racing cocks but was thinking about racing 16 hens this year, i dont like getting rid of hens that have done nowt wrong but 32 is a bit steep for me, and 30 to 40 young birds The problem is, i fly in one club, the lads i see with big teams and big lofts normally fly in 4 or 5 differant clubs and they need the birds, Also some big lofts are harder to spot ill birds and they end up going in baskets with our birds And like someone said we need the big lofts to send big number or there is no point winning imo, and it keeps the cost of racing down, what we should be doing is pulling feds together for bigger birdage, there is 3 feds in my area, coz no one wants to fly against the best flyers in the area, they run away You canstill beat big team flyers with a small team, just work harder,

bibendium Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Surely Its down to personal choice and circumstances, and know one has the right to dictate how many bird a member can keep
