I know it is a mild disinfectant and my mentor many years ago always said I should use it in the drinking water twice weekly.

Something you may not know is that poultry fanciers who showed Rhode Island Reds bathed them in this to colour the feathers before showing.

I used to keep canaries in an outdoor aviary. They would bath every day.I used to put their water into a plastic dog bowl which would be frozen solid in the winter. As soon as I put clean water into it they would jump in a bath, regardless of how cold it was. After seeing that, I have never worried about the pigeons bathing in cold weather. I always put the bath down in one of the two aviaries I have. I think they can be vulnerable when the Sparrowhawk is about. And I like them to bath before mid-day so that they will not sit about at night in a wet condition.
