im sorry but i didnt read this properly the 1st time...what your saying is..we collect feed and look after the birds and you collect them when the fancier gets notified that i have his bird you collect and get £30 plus..i spose the person who has given most to retrieving this bird will be out of pocket each time? :(

not 100%sure but i thought he meant       after a bird is reported to the owner by a non fancier

he can get them picked up and looked after by a fancier  in their area

till any of the couriers or the owner can pick them up

it can sometimes take awhile for the birds to get picked up

and better a fancier looking after it than a non fancier

basically just a storage/pickup point

im prob wrong ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

ps- doesnt just have to be non fanciers that the birds come from

was there not some sort of org. set up last year maybe a few years ago similar to this where fanciers paid money  to get there birds returned for the year and it ended up a scam no birds were ever returned i just cant understand how a non fancier or even a fancier would report a stray to any one other than the union the ring was issued from they then send to the fancier and its him that has to arrange pick up

agree with you frank

but i think its after the birds been reported to the fancier

who then contacts a courier who gets it picked up by a local fancier till they can uplift it

the less time a non fanciers got to keep it the better

and if he gets it away quickly with no hassle hes more likely to report again

i tried setting up a stray centre in bedford here and all over the uk through pigeonbasics last year,,,,,,guess what, fanciers are there own worse enemies as all i got of here was less than a dozen poeple willing to help,,,,,,,,not worth a light most fanciers as cant even help themselves let alone others !

I live in Lancaster and travel to Arbroath most Monday mornings but i set off early and don't have much stoppage time but would be willing to drop birds at any service station or chuck them up near there homes, i will do this as often as i can. just drop me a message on here and if the finder of the pigeon can drop it at mine or it's near enough for me to collect i will gladley help.

the way i see it is if a non fancier contacts the owner a fancier can collect and hold the bird ready for pick up as you all know sometimes the transport aint going your way for 2 or 3 days also its better for a fancier to pick up a bird cos a non fancier would not know a healthy bird from one close to death at least if we collect the bird we can let the owner what condition the bird is in sometimes its better to bin a bird than spend £30 to get a bird back just to die either in transit or when it arrives back home.

Could i just add to this post.

If a fancier has a bird reported by a non fancier and is unable to arrange a courier within the alloted time then the fancier can ring the RPRA who will give them the number of the local club secretary who 9 times out of ten will collect the bird until the courier can be arranged

As we have been couriers for over a year now we didn't have many problems last year with strays.

If the pigeon was with a non fancier, it was always given priority.

prohaps with the costs of couriers ect im sure that if some one put on this site where they had a bird reported that some one on the site would be near by to pick it up look after it feed it ect then release it when its well enough but nine times out of ten when a bird is reported by a non fancier the only place for it is the bin as it prob carnt fly and is to far gone hence why the non fancier can catch it , with this site ect we as fanciers have to pull together and help each other out

hi frank the couriers get the calls from the owners to get the birds and if we are unable to get them strait away thy would be better with a fancier than non fancier
