Guest cosmic dave Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Ok so I built this trap at the weekend, I'm going to use bob wires at the top and have a hinged landing board so I can secure that part of the trap when the birds are in the loft. and have a hinged door on the bottom section for the birds to use as an exit. The next question is do I leave the trap open in the daytime when the birds are inside so they can use the trap as part of the loft ? or do I put a internal trap door to stop them using it ? Sorry I keep bombarding you all with questions, its getting near time to pick the birds up and I want to be as well prepared as possible. David
OLDYELLOW Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 i would gate the back as damp will be carried on wet days back into the loft
Guest cosmic dave Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 On sunny dry days is it ok to leave it open ?
OLDYELLOW Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 yes , but depends what your doing at the time i.e if have hens in and flying cocks out you wouldnt want them seeing each other
Tony C Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Allow them access, the youngsters will be able to get a better look at the surroundings. I would also use Perspex sides, top & front to stop the rain getting in.
Guest cosmic dave Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 If I used perspex all water would roll back into the loft because of the trap design (my fault ) I could fix the trap to the loft with a slight drop so any water inside the trap runs away from the loft ?
