So I lost a young un off the top last year and he has just turned up with a white marker ring.

Why do people do it I'd have given him away !

Sorry for being new, But i dont understand what you mean. I understand the bit "losing it of the top" But what do you about the "white marker ring",

 

Do you mean someones cut his ring off.

obviously he hadnt put the white marker ring on this bird so if you dont use marker rings and it comes back with one then its obvious someones had it in and put it on the bird , the marker ring can be either a clip or coil ring

We had a 4 yr old go down on a bad channel race last yr. He was a  good bird having won and had plenty of prizes over the water. He came back 10 weeks later minus his end flights and his leg ring had been cut off! Idiots!!!!!!!!!!

i dont like havin strays but any stry i get in giv them a few days to build up ( if needed ) and then bring him sumwhere away from home and leave him off if he comes back then i report him! i would never keep a pigeon thats not mine! as i woldn like it done to me!!
