pigeonpete Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 race open for one week, still a wad of pool money to be won!! what the general opinion of what went wrong mate? only slight thing i would say is they could have done with going that bit further on the hotspot race, or was that not possible??
Guest paulrstokes Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 I think I read that they encountered a sand storm that blew up from North Africa. I entered a race several years ago in gran canaria, and the final race was from Tan Tan in Morocco, minutes after the birds were liberated a sandstorm occured, only 2 birds made it back. i dont know if they can be predicted or not. WUL.D Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 what the general opinion of what went wrong mate? only slight thing i would say is they could have done with going that bit further on the hotspot race, or was that not possible?? ye i think they were caught out with weather conditions, plus the birds maybe not far enough in the hot spots... this they have thought about already for next year and there proposals for next year on the net already... i will be entering again next year, maybe send some distance channel blood this time and a couple sprinters to keep me covered for any eventualities... thats plan B anyway, ha ha... now onto the Emerald Classic, i have three going over to Ireland soon
Guest mick bowler Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Just had in email: New changes will make to trainings, hotspot, final race weather, etc for 2011 race! We will explain in more detail next days! Some changes will be: 1. More 5 Km initial trainings. 2. More Island trainings. 3. More offshore short trainings. 4. One more (Las Palmas) - Gran Canaria HotSpot Training 5. Fuerteventura Semifinal Liberations must only be done in perfect conditions allowing a few days before or after HS races for perfect weather with a 5 day scheduled Final & semi final liberation. In order to appease International entrant’s photo’s from web cams or friends can be posted on web page reflecting weather on route with wind and direction at specific times. For final a select group of experienced International fanciers can be selected to aid the race committee in decision when to liberate during 5 day period. Prize giving can be scheduled at end of 5 day period. Care must also be taken with basketing day to ensure pigeon does not spend too much time in basket during hold overs.
