symbro Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 i have been wondering recently if dummy eggs really need to be white'ish wouldnt it be nice if they were a different colour so that we wouldnt stupidly throw them away. (forget who i stole this picture from... but i still love it!)
westy Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 it was one of jimmy whites pics dey laid a golden egg.

DOVEScot Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 Generally eggs are coloured to aid camouflage, pigeons constantly cover their eggs so maybe that is why they have no colour pigment through them. I think you will find this common with birds that do the same :-/
jimmy white Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 i have been wondering recently if dummy eggs really need to be white'ish wouldnt it be nice if they were a different colour so that we wouldnt stupidly throw them away. (forget who i stole this picture from... but i still love it!) ;D ;D ;D off course this was me just joking ;D but it did look nice ,,, now its a thought symbro, if they would take to different colours , and what colours :) this pair sat on this one ok , off course it was a dummy egg ,but wonder what other colours they would take to [i did have a bird take to large glass marbles , as i was short of dummies [magpie stole them when i laid them outside the loft on a chair,,,when i say i laid them ;D ;D ;D i meant i put them there ;D]
oldguy Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 some 25 years ago i had a few fantails flying in the garden and decided to see if they would hatch other types of eggs..result 2 pheasants..mind you they couldnt seem to understand that the chicks didnt want to sit in the nest kev
jimmy white Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 that brings to mind a freind of mine putting quales eggs under a pair of racers, they sat on them hatched them , but it was him that got the fright when he went in the loft and saw these things running about, he near collapsed ;D ;D
symbro Posted May 9, 2008 Author Report Posted May 9, 2008 i have had my dummy eggs disappear... and i cant help but wonder if i threw them away thinking they were real eggs lol
Peckedhen Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 i have had my dummy eggs disappear... and i cant help but wonder if i threw them away thinking they were real eggs lol LOL, I've done that too! : I also threw a couple of eggs onto the lawn in the hope that the rain would clean the droppings off them. A crow stole them - bet it had a job cracking them open though!! ;D ;D
