well today i let my young ones out for their first taste of freedom, all was going well with them picking around the garden when who should appear MRS SPARROW HAWK, luckily i managed to scare her off but not before she spooked the young ones. im begining to think they have a sixth sense and can tell when we let out our beloved birds. Fortunatley i have not lost any even though they were scattered across the roof tops, it took me four hours to get them in so will be keeping them in for a couple of days, am i doing the right thing?

best of luck gooner with the hawk nothing worse to frighten the young birds,or the old birds for that matter hope you have a good season with the old and young birds.

The problem you have Son, is living in an area like you do with so many fanciers, plus people keeping tipplers and tumblers as well, in a square mile, this time of year the Hawks think all their meals have come at once. Will have to make you a trap, then when you catch it, you can relocate it.................................................................

no sixth sense ,just very large eyes ,and one of the best hunting instincts mother nature could come up with .she is going to make you a very sad person over the next couple of months ,if not years .

Just a bit of info that might help. They make their nests about 8/10 feet from the ground. They are usually in a thicket. The nest looks a bit like a magpie nest except it will be near the the tree. Once you get your eye in they are quite easy to find. Especially if you watch the male because unlike the female you will find him easy to see as he displays about the nesting site. Perhaps you should get interested in nature walks and enjoy the wild life in your area. It could be very rewarding.

The  sparrow hen went into ours 3 days ago they all scattered with six missing,it caught one but we chased it off the bird and when the bird flew away she chased it again and caught it a 2nd time we chased it again.

the bird made it home missing lots of feathers and covered in blood we were waiting on 3 on the night but got 2 the next day and were still waiting on one.

The hawk puts our young bird into the air EVERY year! :'(
