Peckedhen Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 My garden fantails tend to sit the first egg so that it hatches a couple of days before the second. Today the first hatched but the second egg looks odd, I can only describe it as having dark, bruise like patches on it with no signs of chipping. It looked fine yesterday - any ideas?? :-/

Peckedhen Posted May 16, 2008 Author Report Posted May 16, 2008 Eeuk! Yes, it was dead in shell. The shell looked even worse today so I decided to remove it, as there was still no sign of chipping. The baby was quite well developed but, judging by the smell, had been dead a few days!
Guest karl adams Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 the egg may have had a small hole in it or a small crack witch as let air get in and the young had died

PigeonClarke Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 I had this problem with 4 eggs recently. Then I realised I had used a mite spray a few days previous. I think its the spray. Something similar to whats happening with black nest felts. Have you used anything like this.
