letthe birds out 8am...8.10 am percy strikes...misses them and comes for another  again missed.

i managed to distract it and noticed another way up above.

percy flew through them and they kept almost all together turning and twisting,he then flew off.

15mins later he,s back but again missed them...it was a full grown percy and i put it down to big luck and a little quick thinking on the y.bs part.

the percy gave up within 5 mins and flew off ...suppose for someones elses unsuspecting birds.

i thought summut was up when they was 1st up like dots flying out of this world then cam e down like rockets...but in a bunch.

Paul yesterday an the day before i had a visit from Percy both days, a young one I would suggest perhaps a yearling but I've not seen such a clever tactic, though o the tele a few (?) months back I saw a percy take a duck on the floor in the sedgemoor flats. As I look out of my loft I look down hill ( aslope like the one travelling down to Abergavenny park from Hereford direction) the field is very wide. The first night I caught site of a bird coming up the field about 3' above the floor, I was getting corn out of my plastic storage shed as I glanced up it flew over the duck pond about 40yds to my right, there are some trees covering it, then theres a gap I acn see through only about 8 yds between the trees and the barn and I was waiting to see the bird go through the gap to see if I could identify it, in that split second I was looking it suddenly appeared heading directly across the front of my loft at a height of about 20@ and only 5 yd away, it was as if it had somersaulted backwards behind the tree to hit back across the front. It had the yellow mark at the side of its face thin and long with that typical falcon wing but it was far more slate grey than what I usually see.

Next night I'm standing in front of the loft looking down the field and about two thirds of the way down a bird flies from east to west at no more than 12' off the ground at quite a speed, as it gets to the edge of the field it dog legs up and flies alomng the perimeter fence  only 6' from the edge of my loft and carries on through.

Percy seems to be changing his hunting habits probably because of over density. I went to the Mid Devon agricultural display last Saturday where there was a afalcon disply on horse back, he flew a peregina and tld the audience they were very lucky to live dowmn Devon & Cornwall because they are all over the place if they want to see them!

the peregrine calls in abergavenny every day,but hasnt been bothering me because of the time i let them out10ish...because my m8 usually lets his out b4 8am...and he,s been slammed by him....even kept his ybs in for a week to try to change the feeding habit of the peregrine on his birds.

yesterday though percy had an off day(which isnt very often) and didnt have any of mine...there is a guy lives just over from me who has tipplers/tumblers..and they fly miles high and they do take some of them.

my m8 has lost over 26 in 3 attacks ...either never returned broken legs and wings or caught.

and he,s a very decent flyer.

they wouldnt stand for this in other countries but our goverment has one out look and thats to impress the rest of world with a green and wildlife caring image.

There is one possitive thing from this Paul. At least your youngsters have learned how to cope with the attacks. Percy usually catches when he can split one off and concentrate on just the one. I have also noticed that he will often catch when the birds are very young and don't take evasive action. It's like picking cherries for Percy.

In the Pontypool area we have seen 9 in the area from Blaenavon down to Pontypool. That would be a distance of about 4/5 miles.

what you have there is probably a hybred. We had one here a couple of years ago. He was attacking pigeons at as low as 10 ft. Pigeons were getting killed and injured by flying into house walls in the panic. I have seen him  flying at speed through the street below roof level. He did'nt last long. Probably killed or injured on a wire. He was a light grey colour, that is why we thought he was some sort of cross breed. Most probably a Falconer's bird, escaped.

Well no real percy near me but I have the stupid *expletive removed* woman who lives next door swinging a plastic peregrine about on the end of a pole to p*ss me and the y/b's off . absolute nutter, hope the y/b get used to it lol.

going to have to have a word with her husband when he comes home, no wonder the feller works away most of the year.

Would make sense Owen, because it's colour was so slate bue/ grey  and even more slender than the normal percy. Wonder if the local pair in the quarry mile and a half away will try and remove him from the territory??
