It does not bode well for our campaign if the London mayor is prepared to treat pigeons in this barbaric way.

Livingstone did not get it all his own way. There was a group set up at the time to look after the Trafalgar Square pigeons, here's the link:-

You will be interested to know that the pigeons got used to the hawks from day one. When a pigeon was taken by the hawk, the others didn't fly off in a panic, they simply moved a couple of dozen yards away to another part of the Square.

 

In my opinion its the pigeons not being fed that's the real reason behind the decline in their numbers.
