Guest frank dooman Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Anybody know if a Eagle owl would keep Sparrow hawks away ? seems they hunt them at night when the owl can see and the hawk is perched or on the nest so they would cut the no,s no doubt about that thats why the rspb want them banned

Guest frank dooman Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 would like one myself but it would cost too much to feed we wouldnt need to feed them they might escape and breed in the wild and feed on our problem friends
mac1 Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 will help your pigeons exersize instead of the flag ;D ;D
Guest youngboy Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 will help your pigeons exersize instead of the flag ;D ;D very true. but cheap as £80 ??) might just invest this will be a intersting thread. and yes they shouldkeep sparrow hawks away. most defo keep peregines away. put it this way if it keep on of them species away its 1 less to not worry about.
Guest frank dooman Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 it has been spoken about on here before the prob is if we(the fanciers) didnt buy and keep breeding pairs the people who do breed them would very quickly grasp the fact that there is money to be made and the price would shoot up so if fanciers who had the room could breed and sell or give away the young birds and help keep the price down
blaz Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 most big bops ie eagle owl buzzard ect keep your smaller bops out the way .if hen sparrow hawk takes a pigeon buzzards or bigger bops would steal their kill
Guest HEATHLOFTS Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 it has been spoken about on here before the prob is if we(the fanciers) didnt buy and keep breeding pairs the people who do breed them would very quickly grasp the fact that there is money to be made and the price would shoot up so if fanciers who had the room could breed and sell or give away the young birds and help keep the price down at least there would be less bop about

mac1 Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 have you seen them mac the would eat a percy sideways ;D im lucky as the spuggy hawks are chasing the collared doves in the conofers 50 meters away, but when the drive through runs out mac1 will be waiting to chase them off my pigeons with the brush
Guest grizzler Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 dont think the rspb would like to see the eagle owl reintroduced to the uk,as they would control the other bop to well
Guest Owen Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 According to the RSPB a law comes into force today (Ist April 2010), which states that a licence would be required to release an Eagle Owl into the wild. They also say that it would be very unlikely to be issued. Aparently, this gives them the right to remove any Eagle Owl they have reason to believe has been released without a licence. In practice this would mean that they would have to catch the bird to examine it. Do you think they would realise it after that?
Guest frank dooman Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 they are removing them just now owen they just make some lame excuse they have been doing it for years but what a silly person i was when i left the avery door open :-/ :-/ :-/
retired Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I would actually like to own one of these myself - Its only a lack of knowledge regarding them that has stopped me in the past - stunning birds!
Guest lenwadebob Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I would actually like to own one of these myself - Its only a lack of knowledge regarding them that has stopped me in the past - stunning birds! Perhaps those who know how to care for them should post us with the correct information regarding keeping one as a pet and the way to look after them in the same way we do our pigeons.
