birdman55678 Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Has anyone flown late hatchs that have not completed a full molt (wing) and if so what have the results been. Good or bad. Its my thoughts that they should have a complete molt before flying as obs. Any thoughts. Thanks. Ed
Wiley Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 birdman can only go on my experience one of my best racing hens one year was a late bred and she didnt drop 2 flights in both wing and boy did she fly well for me i aint going to lie for that old bird season she held my team up mate keeped me in the first 6 in my club every week although i didnt send her to the combine races
Guest shadow Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 You get some good ones but most late hatch birds struggle as yearlings if the races are hard
Chris Little Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Latebreds for most fanciers are deemed as a nuisance and they don't receive the same amount of due care and attention so come time for them to race as yearlings they fail. However, there are some superb fanciers I know up here that love em, they will breed a squad of latebreds from their best racers that season and they are trained all winter regardless of the weather and they do get a good strike rate later on.
