Guest Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 should darkness young birds be deprived of naturall sun rise/set
jimmy white Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 no definately not,,,,,, but if anyone wants to win yb races ,,,yes
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 have said before that forcing young birds on darkness is trying to alter the course of nature and when you do this nature will comeback and bite you, as sammy says you are depriving them of something that is needed the most to grow and flourish, natural sunlight, would rather i never won a young bird race than force them on to a system that is un- natural, was always of the belief that racing young birds was only to educate them for later on in life when they would repay you , not connected to birds but same principle look at the past with all the changes that have been made to alter the planet and now look at what is happenning with all the horrors the planet is throwing back, certain things should be left alone and nature is certainly one of them.
Ronnie Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 Its a hard one to call. With so many people racing darkness youngsters now its near on impossible to compete with them on natural. Would the same people who are against it welcome the Light system? As for racing in later years i think its been shown that they suffer no ill effects in performance's with lots of flyers best birds being darkness youngsters in the past. Then again could them best birds be even better if they was left to mature naturally.
Tony C Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 That's a hard one to call Sammy. To look at your question another way do we deprive our pets that are kept indoors of natural sunlight/sunset? Has it done them any harm? As for any detrimental affects on their racing ability last year I had 2 y/bird teams, one darkness the other left natural. I decided to do this to see if there was any difference as to how they race as oldbirds. The quality or as some would say the lack of ;D is the same so I'll draw my conclusions after racing them this year.
speedbird Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 which is tony darkness or no darkness? also how many weeks do you put em on for?
Tony C Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 I put mine on darkness this Tuesday just gone and will take them off early June. I have babies in the nest still and they will go straight on the darkness.

AT the same tiome tony pets indoors have access to sunlight as most pets get out doors at times
Guest Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 what was the saying never send a laddie to do a mans job that not ring bells for anyone
Tony C Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 what was the saying never send a laddie to do a mans job that not ring bells for anyone Thats why my laddies were only sent to 3 races but the girlies went all the way like a good girlie should
Guest Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 Thats why my laddies were only sent to 3 races but the girlies went all the way like a good girlie should thing is tony not the amount of racing they do but they are on darkness are they not
Tony C Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 Yes Sammy they are on darkness and I've learn through experience that young cocks cant handle racing to the nest as well as hens can. On darkness they mature in the body but not in the mind, as you say sending a laddie to do a mans job. So the way I race my darkness team is to send the cocks to the first 2 or 3 races for the experience then let them pair up and race the hens to eggs.
Guest Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 just no experience of darkness tony thats all just wondering and good to hear your points, cheers sammy
