:o I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to preserve their eggs. Say you want to put a pair together and have no fosters, but you don't want to let that pair raise the babies. Has anyone took the eggs out right after the hen has layed them and put them in the refrigerator or freezer until the next breeding season, then put them under foster parents..? Would that work? I am interested in trying that out.. :-/

there is a whole thread about this idea somewhere.  people who have done it on accident and others who do it regularly.  do a quick search and see if you can find it!

i certainly would'nt put them in the freezer, as a youngster we kept poultry, and used to keep eggs for weeks, before puting them under broody hens, we also used to put eggs u got from the local shop, (not many as u only got one per person per week) under them and they hatched, as far as keeping eggs for a year i dont think they would keep fresh that long, but weeks yes, but not in the freezer, i think they would crack,

There are plenty of hen and duck eggs on eBay but never racing pigeon! I wonder if there's a good reason?  There surely must be a market for eggs from top birds? :-/
