DJWa Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 there are no guarantees james with y/b racers if young enough only a few days with old birds i find it better if they have reared a nest in your loft and if happy you've a good chance of breaking them i don't know if the fancy breeds are the same or not

Guest youngboy Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 the answer can vary heathlofts! o often had ybs broke within the first day and i often had birds in for a week!! but usualy i would keep them in for 5/6 days!
Guest IB Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 I think it depends on the bird and the new owner. I'd some bad experiences breaking my first birds when I started up again, and settled on 21 days as that was how long it had taken me to break a yearling back then. But after reading how it was done with war messenger pigeons, I got the shock of my life : 3 days for a YB, 6 days for an OB. Makes sense as you can't sit around for weeks when there is fighting going on all around you, and birds are required urgently for the war effort. http://forum.pigeonbasics.com/m-1198794246/
Peckedhen Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Dovecote birds - garden fantails - home in just a few days.
