ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 no leave um alone till next year
stewarty dove Posted September 23, 2008 Author Report Posted September 23, 2008 ok. do i need to put them in a basket and let them go to the loft so they get use to the basket??
Guest Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 be a few weeks before you start training they have to start ranging first (dissapearing for about an hour or so) flying in a tight kit dave
sapper756 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 no leave um alone till next year I train latebreds now and over the winter in preparation for racing next year
ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 up to you really but they need time around home before you even consider tossing them plenty time now
stewarty dove Posted September 23, 2008 Author Report Posted September 23, 2008 I see i have only let them out twice and they stay close to the house, they only fly in a pair or single
pigeonman007 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 My few latebreds have had a couple of drops at 2miles, and got them all back, albeit not as quickly as I expected lol Bit reluctant to take them any further though but guess its got to be done at some point

ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 I train latebreds now and over the winter in preparation for racing next year yes but to me latebreds are for breeding not racing each to there own but rushing up road leads to nowere
sapper756 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 hi stewarty, where about in Fife are you?
ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 by the sounds of birds they aint been going out long????
Guest Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 i think you have to give some training in the year of their birth. found that if you dont heavy losses as yearlings. dave
ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 i think you have to give some training in the year of their birth. found that if you dont heavy losses as yearlings. dave yes but not within weeks of entering big wide world they dont know were they are yet
Guest Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 true chris thats why i said they had to be ranging for about an hour or so first probably 6/8 weeks time .even take to bottom of road in basket and let them sit for 1/2 hour before release. it all helps.must basket train first dave
Guest Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 stewartydove did you get them all in last night m8 dave
peterpau Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 I see i have only let them out twice and they stay close to the house, they only fly in a pair or single You got to give 'em more time yet. I have late breds in the nest. These won't be trained till next years youngsters are ready, then they will go with the young birds, and be used for old hens National.
Guest IB Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 These birds are not yet on the wing. Got to give them a chance to learn to fly and to get a fix on their home. Use that time to get some control over them, teach them to come in when called etc. Basket training can wait, as can training.
stewarty dove Posted September 23, 2008 Author Report Posted September 23, 2008 Hi dave i did get them all in last night once one went in they all went in, was chuffed when it happend. Cut their food down a bit to as i think i was feeding them to much cheers for the help
