Guest JonesyBhoy Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Just back in the sport after a few years off. Sent 14 young birds to our second race from Cockenzie. One in paticular stood out all week a Lt. Cheq Wf Cock '3151'. He was in great nick and was duly made the all pooler. Race was put back till Sunday, which suited my partner and myself as we could sit all day down at the doos. We time our second fancied bird a little behind the eventual winner. They drop in pretty steady and by clock check we have 12/14. No sign of the all pooler tho. I joked to my partner that maybe he was way out ahead and got perigrined..!! Open the loft door yesterday and what comes running toward me.. '3151' or should i say half of '3151'..!! How this doo made it home baffles me... 'ripped to shreds' is an understatement.. Anyway was just wondering if theres maybe anything i can put on his skin wheres hes ripped to help him heal or any advice on how i can help his recovery..???
Guest bigjohnwadd Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 If he was still bleeding we used to put flour, better now talc powder, but if its dried up,just let him get on with it,because of their high tempreture vary rare infection can ever set it
Guest IB Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 I wash the wound in warm soapy water, drown it in neat antiseptic, then seal it with a healing paste. These are small animal products, don't think there is anything specially for birds / pigeons.
peterpau Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Seems they've started using honey on wounds in hospital recently. Worth a try and it certainly aint gonna do any harm.
Ronnie Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 i usually just plaster the open wound with vaseline.
Guest MIKE1957 Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 i use aloa vera on mine they seem to heal very quickly
thomasd Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 if hes cut open and sill bleeding use superglue to closes the cut it sould heal
Guest slugmonkey Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 I would just leave it be unless he is still bleeding lot less chance of infection if left open
Babybird Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Seems they've started using honey on wounds in hospital recently. Worth a try and it certainly aint gonna do any harm. Has to be a certain type of honey mate. Normal honey be of no benefit as it is heated to high and contains too much sugar which would only encourage infection
Guest Owen Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Use a light distinfectant such as detol to clean the wound and go to your local Phamracy and buy a spray on wound dressing. Make sure the wound is clean because the wound dressing works fast on pigeons and you do not want to seal any dirt inside.
