Guest Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 yes if they are well bred and fully through the moult they race just like nat. y/bs
Guest JPH Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 YES no difference as long as they dont hold flights , more prone to dropping there last flights when they drop there first one the following year than naturals or latebreeds for some reason, they race fine as old birds
mark proctor Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 YES no difference as long as they dont hold flights , more prone to dropping there last flights when they drop there first one the following year than naturals or latebreeds for some reason, they race fine as old birds im not shore about the holding of the flytes...my m8 won 2 races with a yearling that had been on the darkness systam...it had 2 nest flyes left..1 of the races it topped the fed..5000 plus birds..i think a pigeon is born a good pigeon..simple as...jmo....
Guest gladdo Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 defo id go for darkness as you can keep them going longer but if they on natural they will be fine for next year mate !!! get them through the moult ...mikey
Guest peter.j Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 HI ALL,,WHAT ARE YOUR VEIWS ON DARKNESS YB,S AND NATURAL YB,S,,, RACING AS YB,S AND NXT YEAR AS YEARLING ???????? dont know about as yearlings but i will definately darken mine next year had to stop mine two weeks ago they where falling to bits
Guest KING BILLY Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 the darkys are not a patch on natural birds at the yearling stage i have tryed and tested them to the max at 300ml and 400 and moor this may be the reson why thay are so maney yearlings lost after the 200ml mark this is my observation of my own loft thay are always the odd one or 2 that proves you wrong but any good darknes young birds i have had dont last the following year and mind thay are not many yearlings that will fly this distence anyway not unles thay are bread for it its ok if you whant them to fly up to 250mls mark but not for me

kev43 Posted September 1, 2009 Author Report Posted September 1, 2009 thanks lads 4 ur very interesting thoughts
Tony C Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 My love is old bird racing and I would do nothing to compromise that. I race my youngsters on the darkness.
Guest Owen Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 My widowhood cocks are the main interest for me. My young cocks are on darkness and have to race up to the coast in their first year. My idea is, to make sure that they are tried and tested to the limit. I know then that, when they learn the widowhood system next year, they will go on to do some damage. I do not hammer them as yearlings. Just to the coast. This year I am quite lucky because I have 12 young cocks looking for 6 places in the widowhood team. So naturally, I will dump the ones on the bottom of my list. And one of my criteria in selection will be how the bird in question moults out. Next year I have already made up my mind that the young cocks will have to do Lilliers as an aid to selection. It will be very interesting to see what happens.

Some guys think they are not as good as they where as young birds. The problem is they no longer have the advantage they had as young birds.
