Can any one give me some advice im thinking of putting 2 fans in my false  ceiling to aid the ventalation when the shutters are all closed up in the darkness section, one taking the air out of the section and out through the roof and one the opposite way around bringing fresh air in from the roof space is this viable and will it spread foul air into my other sections if i do this.

Any advice would be great thanks

i think you ould be better having both fans expellling air..as they would also draw air in from the front of your loft

the air expelled through roof vents or fans should be drawn from floor level or the air within the compartment will not be constantly changed.

Damian, your not trying to make the section a blackout zone, it should be dusk conditions, the birds will be in a restfull state~!

been told it should be dark enough for u to walk in and once your eyes adjust u can then see is that right phil

The basics are very simple, install an extractor in the section as high as possible and as others rightly suggest, the fresh air needs to come in low on the front. As the air becomes foul within the loft it warms and rises then the fan is ideally placed to remove the warm fouled air from the section and allow cooler fresh oxygen rich air to enter.

knowing Steven for 20 years now I copied SvB's system and it is a god send, especially when the weather is hot as the amount of oxygen in the air drops and you have with a fan the ability the increase the air flow and therefore the amount of oxygen in the loft.

Great thinking to do this as I am convinced that a lot of lofts problems stem from darkening and restricting the oxygen levels in the loft for the lions share of the day. Also helps to turn it on for a short while when the birds are coming back from exercise and racing, they recuperate so much quicker it is noticeable

You should be able to see when the doors are closed. Its reduced light to make the birds roost and rest.

electric fans are alright mate but what i found wrong with them was when the birds are settled and the fans turn on it draws all warm air out the loft and the loft becomes cold all of a sudden which isnt good for the birds

hope this helps
