Guest Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Hi ive got my team of young birds coming soon but there coming from diff sources ive got 22 coming from 3 fanciers but all the same family and 6 gifted off a fancier on here now all these birds are going to be different ages how am i going to get these out together without getting flyoffs
pjc Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 if you can put them in different sections when they arrive would be a good idea. As each batch arrives get them settled, into a feeding routine etc then start getting them out.
FoxesFan4Ever Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Hi, Assuming the birds have never flown out from a loft you should have no major problems. It will take patience is all. You need to let the birds know where they live. I would wait until you have them all safely in your loft. Then I would keep them in for at least a week or 10 days without letting them out at all. After that I would basket them and place the baskets as high as possible outside, preferably on the loft roof (if safe) and let them get their surroundings clocked. Do that for a couple of hours a day for 3 or 4 days, putting them back in the loft by placing them through the trap so they know where that is. I would rattle the feed tin while putting them in too. After that it will be time to take the plunge and let them go, with your older birds if possible. If you have any really young birds you wouldn't need to do all this and you could have them flying out and homing before the older ones. This is how I have treated my older new birds. Lost 2 early on because I was keen and impatient but all the rest have come home. This is my experience and opinion only and I will stand corrected if others have a better way. (Probably use it too lol) Good luck anyway whichever way you choose. Wish you all the best for the season.
