adam owen Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 why is it yb get fret marks on there flights in the nest ???????????
jimmy white Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 these fret marks are usual caused by some sort of stress, when the actual flight is piping through its sheath. with young pigeons , in the nest, this can be caused by a variety of reasons, this so-called stress could be anything from a missed feed, a particularly cold night, poor or immature parents in rearing, even a disturbance at night , which could be caused by rodents,, some of the reasons can be unseen or unknown to the owner, but if only a slight fret mark on the odd young bird, i wouldnt worry,,, this can and does happen, but if many are like this, something is seriously wrong, ,,good luck

tori.no. nail Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 stress .a lot to do with feeding by the parents wether they get enough vitamins and minerals .most young will have fret marks when parents are feeding two young in a nest, you will see these where the wings meet the shoulder buts, very small frets.wing frets is another thing ,poor diat parents not having correct food ect to feed them. a single bred youngster should show no fret marks.if parents fed properly.
adam owen Posted February 22, 2010 Author Report Posted February 22, 2010 they cant be feeding proply then coz they are getting everything they need
tori.no. nail Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 guess, it could have been the cold weather when younger parents not sitting tight enough.
Guest IB Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 I have only experienced this once , paired up in January when it was mild, but youngsters hatched out during a very cold spell that lasted most of February. After youngsters started to feather up, parents didn't cover them during evening & night. Reckon youngsters then used most of their energy to keep warm, feathers growth badly interrupted, hence frets, marks where the feather stopped growing.
