wilkins Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 most of my ybs are 16-19 days and i want to wean them with the hens as i have done before, i have one pair 12 days can these be taken away at the same time as the cock is looking at his hen again and i do not want him to re pair/tread although i put the ybs on the floor for the hens to feed will this pair be ok or can i myself do something to help this pair over the next 3-4 days
wilkins Posted March 16, 2010 Author Report Posted March 16, 2010 i should have added the reason is i wish to race the hens late in the season into july ,hence not wanting them to sit again yet
pjc Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 If leaving 1 pair together for the sake of 1 pair of youngsters and risking messing your plans up then part them and let them take there chances.
north wales novice- Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 an option would be to move hens and young to one section , or just the hens and leave the cocks feed them . when the cocks are out excercising let the hens feed the young also (hope that made sense) ? (dizzy) andy.
pjc Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 I asume when it say's wean with the hens and at 16-19 days that they will be moved together in the same section for the hens to finish the yb's off.
wilkins Posted March 16, 2010 Author Report Posted March 16, 2010 yes that makes sense , was putting all the hens and ybs in the yb section ,but was wondering if the younger ones might not get there fill, the trouble with the cock is he does not seem to most strongest cock in the loft and did not want to risk the ybs coming to harm in the shed with the other cocks

pjc Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 when you wean them all together with the hens all the hens feed all the yb's so as long as the younger pair are calling to be fed they will get fed. Also last thing in the evening after weaning check there crops are full and if not top them up by hand for a couple of days.
wilkins Posted March 16, 2010 Author Report Posted March 16, 2010 yes i will soak some peas tonight let them be fed in the morning then have them away thanks
fletch Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 answer to your question mate is yes part them all of and the hens will feed them all, my dad has been parting young and hens off together and they have done a great job with them mate, reallly good and some were 13 days old and all got feed, so yes do it mate,
