Channel Racing

During close season had been looking at channel competition. I know the end bit that I want [as per previous advice given by forum members]:

(1) 2 yo - Newbury 330 miles, 8-9 hours, 3 weeks rest, then Alencon 560 miles. I was on track for that 2 years ago [Maidstone / Falaise] 'panicked' and took the hen on a 100 mile single-up trainer on the Saturday before Wednesday basketing, and she got hawked. Never again.

(2) Yearling - Eastbourne, 404 miles, 9-10 hours, rest, then Ypres 450? miles.

I have a problem though - I need to split the 2-yo for 2-3 weeks in May to set them down for Newbury and sitting a 7 day old youngster at Alencon basketing - as per previous nest advice given by forum members. I'm starting them this weekend at 82 miles, and expect them to rise when they return. After splitting, should I continue to train or race the birds until I pair them up again? Newbury is on 6th June.
