You really have to decide how many you want to have for next year, put your 12 best cocks in their section so that they get used to the boxes and then I,m afraid that unless you find room elsewhere the others will have to go,I cut down to the same number each year you cant keep them all unless you build another loft.

I agree with Tony, select the best and dispose of the rest, any odd cockbirds will just cause you problems latter on!

If you havn't got 12 hens then cut the cock birds down to the number of hens to make pairs for next year.

Seperate them as soon as you can so the cockbirds can select there boxes and the birds can complete the moult and rest.

Thanks for the advice forgot to mention 15 of my 32 pigeons are latebreds which i have just started to train so ill split them  when i have finished training these in a couple of weeks.

Agree with other posts. I split the sexes when the YB racing is finsihed. I note that you have 15 late breds ~ mine may be younger, but I feel it is unlikely that yours are all showing which sex they are yet. I thought I had equal numbers on Friday, looking again over the weekend - maybe 4 hens spare?

I have had lots of spare hens last couple of years and I am trying to get it balanced this year because as others say, it causes trouble.

Being a novice IB im finding it tricky sexing them some are easy but others one day i think its a cock and the next i think its a hen when im done training in a couple of weeks im going to weed a few out and split them hoping ive got roughly equal of cocks and hens but im sure ive got more cocks than hens.
