Ronnie Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 Ok i'm on my third young bird race this week and i reckon now is when they start racing. What tips and Tricks will you use to try and get an edge?. I will be putting in two nest boxe's tomorrow to try and get a bit of extra motivation. I also have youngsters on egg's for this one as well. Anyone else want to share a few tips ?Maybe if they change the feed and stuff?
Tony C Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 My y/birds are left together at all times. I find that healthy y/birds are always busy in the loft, fighting for perches/territory, pinching nesting material of one another and the like. These are motivating themselves without any help by me. I will try a trick or two when the longer races come around, adding eggs to nests is a favourite of mine. Races under 150 mile I'll add popcorn maize to their feed at about 33%, races longer than 150miles I'll start to add safflower also.
raymcdonald Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 KEEP THEM FIT KEEP THEM HEALTY GOOD MANAGMENT DONT BLAME THE BIRDS, LOOK IN THE MIRROR YOU WILL SEE WHO GOT THINGS WRONG ( ME LOL )
chichichi Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 there are many things you can do,, but start doing them earlier in the week.. get a small sheet of ply board,, about 1 ft by 2ft,, lean this against a wall on a monday.. this area will be prized and it will work for 1 week only,, after that a dominant cock will own it..try adding some old hens in the loft thursday night,, make sure they are ronk,, this will motivate the cocks and hens,, don't put old cocks in as they beat the young ones.. keep adding eggs to the young hens,, they will take to upto 6.. add a cardboard box again on monday or tuesday,, same as the ply wood... split the team up and put together friday .. the most important thing is keep them going,, train them hard or work them around the loft,, give them a rest and the moult will sneak up on you... have a great young birds ant
