Hi Michael,

the Wildemeersch are like any other strain, its about getting the good birds just the same as every other family going! I have been fortunate to have some good ones, and find them to be a lot like the Busschaerts, multi-purpose! As Old Yellow states, we were 4th UNC Bourges 570 miles last season with a Wildie, and topped the Fed 8th UNC Clermont a few seasons ago with one aswell. So if you put them over the pond, and they are right, and they are good enough, they will come. We have a hen that was 20th open at 700+ miles that is half Wildemeersch. So they are also proving to be a good cross into extreme distance blood aswell.

If you go to Frans Van Wildemeersch direct, he's a very freindly bloke, and he doesn't charge the earth either, last time i was there they were about 50 quid each! Most of his birds are middle to long distance type now, but he still carries his bloodlines of the Wittekelle and the Kleine Bliksem through his loft. He has those two champions stuffed in his study!  :)

You are mentioning some of the Wildie UK greats there Jimmy, i know Les Wooff, has some great birds! There are many many others aswell, Bob Walton, Brian Leadbeater, Clive Yates, etc. Fantasic fliers, all aided with the Wildies! One of the best partnerships in the north east in recent years was Hindmarsh & Son, their birds were Wooffy Wildie's crossed in with Kavanagh Bros Busschaerts. They flew so well, the Kavanagh's got some birds back crossed them back into their own, and the family exploded again! The lines went to Dyson & Nichol a top team in the UNC, and they have obliterated the place aswell! Really good birds!  :)

Mine came from Brian Leadbetter not saying that they probably wouldnt go further than they did for me and with cross would be even better but had distance birds so never really tried or bothered to work them for distance racing

You still got them Rose? They are as good, (and very much sought after), Wildie lines that you can get! The Grove, The S Ring, etc. Fabulous birds! They'll see you alright them Rose, trust me!  :)

yes these were topping fliers [im not sure if" clive 76"  came from clive yates?] i know the wooffs very well, [was speaking to charlie yesterday  :) co-incedence or what :) and know les and his daughter  cheryl,, at about 14 years old she could run of every ring no and every performance of each bird [off course  thats a while ago now ;D] quite amazing for a young lass though :) the whole family are pigeon orientated , even  nephews etc :) but  like  all these  fliers  above , could really race pigeons ,,,les, won the car with" bonnie blue" and charlie and russel won the nrcc from frazerburgh with" clive 76 " [this birds fed posititions have to be seen to beleived :)] all indeed great fliers in the hottest of competition [porter and richardson included] :)

You have job to find much better i think  ;D

Rose, this is why I like this site so much, good general information, one could say which is given out freely. In 1995 I travelled from one side of the country to the other here (No small distance)  to buy a few imports for the first time etc (4) & to this day, I still remember what the bloke said to me back then when I handed over my money  ;D ;D ;D for one of them. He was a Wildermish cock (I know it's the wrong spelling)  ;) ;), but thats my way. Anyway !!!!!! he said you can have that one cheap $150 it's only a sprint pigeon etc 150miles (rubbish sort of thing)  :) :) :). from Bertie Fletcher of Ireland, down from the Crack hen by it's pedigree. 10 thousand pound was paid for it I believe, (Nice to have money) "LOL"

Oh to be rich also  ;D ;D ;D. Now the funny thing is, he never bred me any sprint pigeons of any note, but some real cracker distance pigeons sort off, when they had to push into the wind for 10 or 12 hours etc. So to me, it is just is another example etc that you never really know what might just turn up if your lucky, in this game.

Enjoy.

Thank you for all the repiles. I can see now that there are still plenty around even if they are less popular, maybe due to the Vandenabelee virus!

I have just got a beautiful opal cock from Louella of Jim Smiths lines. A very nice handling bird. I think it will be crossed with Brian Denney birds. Just for the opal colour. I bet Brian would be pleased, not. :-/

Anyway I like the bird and its colour and hope to get some pretty colours to fly long distances.

Michael, Albert Cousins in Belfast (The Gaffer on pigeonchat and here) has them, the old Bertie Fletcher ones, and he EDC fancier of the year i believe (again) top flyer. Has a website http://www.plantationlofts.co.uk/ some top class birds and performances from every distance.

Good luck with the cross Michael, you never know! I'm almost sure that the cross Wildie hen that was 20th open is Wildie crossed on to Brian Denney birds, i'll have to dig her pedigree out! She bred two sort of Opal-Slatey-Chequers last breeding season! Both are still there, I wonder if that colour comes from the Wildie side???? Jim Smith had some really great birds so you are "playing with the best coal" as they say up here! I think Mark Pearson (Cosworth Stud in Birmingham) got most of Jim Smith's birds when they were sold!  :)
