Guest joshdonlan Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Im looking to pair my birds up in a way that i can get squeakers all within a weeks age of each other. What the best way of doing this?
phillips Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 i pick my pairs and let them see eachother every wkend for the day when the time comes to pair for real they already settled to eachother hope this helps
OLDYELLOW Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 lock hen you want pairing to cock in box feed and water for a week prior to when you want to pair then let cocks in with hens for 5 days they should be paired after the first week
jimmy white Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 during their seperation period , i would let a cock and hen outside together ,for an hour or so, then repeat with another pair , every now and again through the winter ,, most cocks would have their own box, so when pairing up time comes,,,,it makes things slight;y easier word of warning when pairing,, yearling cocks can be very cruel, and possibly scalp the hen if not carefull, usually an upside down galley pot is put in, [or a half brick] so the hen can jump on this to avoid an aggressive cock

What the best way of doing this? another tip if you want them to lay at the same time, once thay are paired up let them out of boxes to get used to going back to the right box dont put bowls in till the fith day then the day after put down straw, thay will all build together and lay within a couple of days.
